Hospitals and Dispensaries

The district has 7 Hospitals, 14 Primary Health Centres (5 underway), 4 State Dispensaries, 5 Community Health Centres and 82 Health Sub Centres.

Tura Civil Hospital (100 bedded Hospital)

Civil Hospital, TuraThis is the oldest hospital in the district established in 1910. The complex consists of a number of buildings, each housing a particular ward set apart for different diseases for administrative convenience. There are also arrangements for different categories of inpatients. The wards consist of Male Medical and Female Medical Wards, Male Surgical and Female Surgical Wards, Isolation Wards and two paying cabins’.

The Police Hospital at Tura is manned by the Medical Officers of the Civil Hospital, though it is primarily for police personnel and their families. There is  a T.B. Hospital, a Leprosy Colony and a Jail Hospital in Tura.

Private Hospitals in Tura

Christian Hospital, Tura

Tura Christian Hospital was started by the American Baptist Mission, initially as a dispensary in 1908. This hospital is controlled by the Council of Baptist Churches of North-East India and it is affiliated to the Christian Medical Association of India. The Medical Superintendent is in overall charge of this hospital.

This hospital provides the usual facilities like Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Eye treatment. There are separate wards for men, women, children and maternity cases and also a number of private rooms.

Another private hospital is the Holy Cross Hospital.

No. of Out Hospitals and Dispensaries

Five Community Health Centres (30 bedded) are located at Ampati, Dadenggiri, Dalu, Phulbari and Selsella. Two more CHCs are under construction at Mahendraganj and Alagre.

There are 14 Primary Health Centres functioning at Tikrikilla, Jelduapara, Bhaitbari, Garobadha, Betasing, Zikzak, Kalaichar, Nogorpara, Porakhasia, Kherapara, Salmanpara, Mahendraganj, Darenggiri and Assananggiri. Five more new PHCs are under construction and almost completed and expected to be made functional within 2001-2002 at Rangsakona, Millim, Belbari, Pedaldoba, Babadam.

Four State Dispensaries are functional at Rongchugre, Saka-Boldamgre, Rangsakona and Raksamgre.

There are five Rural Family Welfare Centres at Assananggiri, Betasing, Dalu, Zikzak and Selsella.

Other than that 82 Health Sub-centres are there in the district. Five more  Health Sub-centres are going to be constructed within 2000-2001.

One Female Health Workers Training Centre is located at Rongkhon.
